In true Apple fashion, to not lose their foothold in Mp3 sales, they are relying
on their history. What's their answer to crush Miscrosoft and MTV's attempt to
cut into their market? Raise the price. Going back to their buy our hardware to
have the privilage to run our software which has never really worked for them.
Apple has decided if their customers pay more, they will feel like they are
getting a better product.
Apple has hurt themselves with this time and again, but are hell-bent on making
it work this time. Each song download will be $1.99 and will only work if you
have an iPod, thinking this will kill sales for any other Mp3 player. Though
Apple is already perceived to have nothing to do with Windows and the main stream
market, they now want to push their Mp3 dominance to have 100% of the market by
only allowing their hardware and raising the price. They are willing to risk it
all to get higher profits from those that don't run away to an alternative.
